Character Spotlight #33-Ron Hope (#6 Villain Series)
In this Character Spotlight, learn about Ron Hope and Wes Johnson, the voice behind Ron Hope.

Meet Ron Hope
Ron Hope is the wealthy industrialist behind HopeTech, one of the Freestar Collective’s most influential starship manufacturers, and a sitting member of the Freestar Collective Council. Publicly, he presents himself as a plainspoken, folksy champion of frontier values—someone who built his company from the ground up and understands the struggles of settlers trying to survive on the margins of civilized space. HopeTech’s ships are known for being rugged, utilitarian, and well-suited to harsh environments, reinforcing his carefully cultivated image as a man who serves the common people rather than corporate elites.
Beneath that persona, however, Ron Hope is deeply corrupt, orchestrating violence and exploitation to protect his profits and political power, even when it means destroying lives and entire homesteads. His character embodies one of Starfield’s central themes: the rot that can fester behind populist rhetoric, and the moral cost of unchecked power in a frontier society that prides itself on freedom.
Meet Wes Johnson
Wes Johnson is an American actor, voice artist, comedian, cartoonist, and radio/TV personality with a long and varied career in entertainment.
Johnson's career is defined by an extensive and iconic body of work across Bethesda titles and beyond. In The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, he voiced Daedric Princes such as Boethiah, Malacath, and Molag Bal, while The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion cemented his legacy with performances as Lucien Lachance, Sheogorath, and the Imperial Watch, roles he reprised and expanded upon in Shivering Isles and later in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as Sheogorath, Hermaeus Mora, and Emperor Titus Mede II. He continued these mythic roles in The Elder Scrolls Online, voicing major figures like Hermaeus Mora and Ard Caddach across multiple expansions.
In the Fallout series, Johnson portrayed characters ranging from the sinister Mister Burke and the super mutant Fawkes in Fallout 3 to Moe Cronin, the Silver Shroud, and numerous robots and mutants in Fallout 4, with even broader vocal work in Fallout 76.
In Starfield, he lends his voice to Ron Hope, the charismatic yet morally ambiguous CEO of HopeTech.
Outside Bethesda, his credits include various roles in World of Warcraft, Star Trek: Legacy, and Star Trek: Conquest, as well as television appearances in Veep, The Wire, Homicide: Life on the Street, and voice work on Phineas and Ferb. He has also appeared in films such as Hearts in Atlantis and A Dirty Shame, and is widely known outside of acting as the longtime public address announcer for the Washington Capitals, making him one of the most recognizable and versatile voices in modern gaming.
