Because the new update is not compatible with the earlier version due to several changes under the hood to allow me to continue bringing you awesome new features. The legacy version exists so you do not have to take the leap and rebuild you outposts and ships until your ready. Attempting to update without removing everything and uninstalling the legacy mod WILL break your save. The alternative is switch version right before a unity jump.
