Useful Vending Machines changes the vanilla vending machines to create a more interactive experience.

Screens? Screens!

Vending machines now have the following states, each has their own screen:

  • Ready (default)
  • Choose Items
  • Sold Out
  • Out of Order

New interactivity!

When you approach and activate a vending machine, you will now see a Choose Items screen and can choose items from the vending machine using the games existing container quick menu UI. You can select the item(s) from the quick menu or the Transfer window. If there is a stack of items, you can only take one at a time. If all items are removed from the machine, you will see the Sold Out screen.

Vended items are now dropped to the floor, allowing you to take advantage of quick access to consume or take the item.

Theft? You bet.

Instead of taking (purchasing) items, you can also choose to hit a vending machine. Hitting a vending machine is treated as a crime and will attract nearby guards. Items dropped from hitting a vending machine will be marked as stolen. There is a chance that hitting a vending machine will break it, which will show the out of order screen.

Compatibility & Extensibility

Not compatible with anything that edits the vanilla script "VendingMachineScript.pex". Mostly compatible with things that add new vending machines following the original script. However, you will not see additional screens unless that author adds in support to their own creation for the effect sequences as seen in Useful Vending Machines. No patch required. Other creations that shrink the vending machine likely will have issues with the alignment of the container (quick menu) view. They may need to create their own vending machine script to be compatible and not rely on the vanilla script.

Thanks

Special thanks to Namori Creations for designing the Choose Items and Sold Out screens, Marv's Bytes for assisting with the container mesh used for item selection, and Desqel for designing the Out of Order screens.
