Vault Habs

Vault Habs is a gameplay enhancement for Starfield that introduces new Deimos-manufactured ship habs with built-in vaults. These secure modules are loaded with valuable loot, making them prime targets for pirates, spacers, and opportunistic captains.
New Vault Modules for Sale
The following Deimos vault habs are available for purchase from Ship Services where large Deimos habs are sold (example: Deimos Staryard):
- Deimos Vault 2L2W1H
- Deimos Vault 2L3W1H
- Deimos Vault 3L2W1H
- Deimos Vault 3L3W1H
Each vault is designed with a fortified interior and storage system suitable for cargo, credits, or contraband depending on the captain’s line of work.
GalBank, true to form, doesn’t use standard vault habs. Instead, they’ve commissioned a custom Deimos vault hab exclusive to their new ship, the Vaultrunner. The GalBank Vault 3L3W1H hab is not available by default but can be either obtained by capturing a Vaultrunner or from Ship Services where large Deimos habs are sold, if enabled via Game Option setting.
Vault Habs Are Now in Use by Multiple Factions
Vault habs aren’t just for sale, they’re already in use across the Settled Systems. You may encounter them aboard ships belonging to:
- Freestar Collective - Evermore, Overhead
- GalBank - Vaultrunner
- Trade Authority - Jackpot
- United Colonies - Whale
Ships that have vaults are not a common encounter. If in an area with a lot of other ships, resourceful captains can identify them faster by name using their scanner.
Accessing Vaults
You’ll need to either:
- Own the ship, or
- Acquire the Captain's Vault Keycard from the Captain's Locker to gain entry.
Plan accordingly! Vaults are heavily secured.
CredTanks can be accessed with a GalBank Transfer Module. These modules can also be found in the Captain's Locker if you don't already own one. The ones found in the Captain's Locker are limited to vault habs, whereas those found in GalBank class M ships have wider access permissions.
Locating Vault Ships
Vault ships are not a common encounter by default, and they typically operate in major orbits where the presence of local security makes boarding attempts difficult for pirates.
Vault ships may be encountered in civilized space outside of major orbits, though sightings are rare. The frequency of these encounters can be adjusted in Game Options.
The Crimson Fleet has also taken notice. After planting tracking devices on known vault ships, they have begun targeting them directly. A new Heist mission can be found on the Crimson Fleet mission board for those looking to put that intelligence to use. The frequency for the availability of this new mission can be adjusted in Game Options.
Compatibility & Extensibility
Vault Habs is built for maximum compatibility, using script injections instead of direct edits to leveled lists, ensuring minimal conflicts with other creations.
Vault Habs is fully compatible with and optionally enhanced by:
- Captains Matter
- Plunder - Improved Piracy
Neither is required, but both are designed to work seamlessly alongside Vault Habs.
