The Blackest Sea - Survival Mode
The vanilla Starfield experience lacks the survival elements that made Fallout 4 so engaging. This Creation introduces Ship Fuel, an overhauled Sustenance system, and a Soft Permadeath mechanic for New Game Plus, adding depth, challenge, and roleplaying opportunities. All features are customizable via the gameplay settings menu.
Ship Fuel
Grav-Jump Fuel Costs: Helium-3 is now required for Grav-Jumps, with costs matching the approximate amount shown on the Star Map. Refueling Options: Refuel manually at your ship's cargo terminal or through a dialogue option with a Ship Technician. Acquiring Helium-3: Purchase from vendors, extract from planets, or scavenge from defeated ships (now carrying fuel in their inventories). Economy Adjustment: Helium-3 prices are increased for added realism, as is the amount vendors have available. Customization: Disable this feature in the gameplay settings if preferred. Note: You can still fast travel, meaning you can't get stuck on an alien world, but doing so will cost you your entire fuel tank.
Sustenance Overhaul
Balanced Needs System: Replaces the vanilla all-or-nothing buffs/debuffs with a granular system inspired by Fallout 4. Hunger/Thirst: Every 8 hours, unmet needs reduce carry weight and oxygen levels incrementally. Food and drink reduce needs in proportion to their weight. You can also drink water from a Galley if you have water in your ship's cargo. Sleep: Every 16 hours, fatigue reduces EXP gains until you rest. Coffee and Tea decrease fatigue by a small amount. Flexibility: You can delay addressing needs for a few hours without severe penalties, but they must be managed eventually. Better Vendors: Both Terrabrew and Tranquilitea now sell a wide variety of food as well. Customization: Adjust the difficulty in the gameplay settings for a tailored experience.
Soft Permadeath (New Game Plus)
Increased Stakes: In New Game Plus, death sends your character back through the Unity without gaining a Starborn level, resetting progress in that cycle (but keeping your experience and skills gained). Enhanced Roleplaying: Adds tension and makes the Unity a challenging goal, deepening narrative immersion. Lore: This system also explains where the Starborn go when they die, and how each Starborn has persisted through countless cycles. Optional: Disabled by default; enable it in the gameplay settings for a hardcore experience.
Compatibility
A new save is not needed, as all systems will work on existing games. It should be compatible with most creations, and load order won't matter.
