SSNN SPECIAL REPORT
Twelve Familiar Hulls Return Bigger, Meaner, and Considerably Less Sensible
NEW ATLANTIS, JEMISON — Shipyards across the Settled Systems are reporting sightings of a new collection of heavily reworked vessels known collectively as The Reforged Fleet, a thirteen-ship project built around one remarkably uncomplicated design philosophy: if a ship already works, apparently the next logical step is to make substantially more of it.
The project comprises 13 vessels, each descended from a recognisable production ship, patrol craft, military platform or less-than-respectable favourite already familiar to experienced captains.
Rather than abandoning the character of the original designs, the Reforged programme preserves their visual identity wherever practical. Hull colours, manufacturer language, structural cues and the general character of each vessel remain recognisable. What has changed is everything beneath, around and occasionally several metres beyond that familiar silhouette.
Reactors have been enlarged. Grav drives have been strengthened. Shield systems have been pushed well beyond the expectations of their donor hulls. Weapon packages have grown heavier, internal volumes have expanded and ship dimensions have increased accordingly.
Sources close to the project describe the designer as possessing an almost pathological belief that larger is preferable, a principle applied with enough consistency that SSNN is beginning to suspect measuring equipment may have been removed from the workshop entirely.
Among the vessels confirmed so far:
Blade of Dorianne
Built from the bones of the Razorleaf, the Blade of Dorianne retains the predatory profile and unmistakable attitude of its predecessor while transforming the compact hunter into something far more substantial. Familiar menace, now with considerably more ship attached to it.
Warmonger
The Crimson Fleet Wight III provides the foundation for Warmonger, an enlarged raider that takes the original vessel's aggressive intent and strips away whatever remaining sense of moderation it may once have possessed.
Ghost Atropos
Derived from the Orchid, Ghost Atropos expands the original design without losing its more elegant lines. The result is a vessel that looks less like it entered the room and more like it has quietly decided the room belongs to it.
The Pursuant
The Star Eagle becomes The Pursuant, and is notably the only member of the collection to become narrower across the beam. Its reduced wingspan gives the vessel a tighter profile even as its systems, mass and combat capability move firmly in the opposite direction.
Apparently even an obsession with scale permits one exception.
Leviathan's Bane
The Narwhal returns as Leviathan's Bane, retaining the broad, heavyweight character of the original while receiving the sort of expansion normally associated with military procurement committees that have stopped asking how much anything costs.
Acheron Drift
The Abyss Trekker is reforged into Acheron Drift. Long-range character remains central to the design, but increased power generation, defensive capacity and firepower turn the concept into something far less interested in avoiding trouble.
Dissident Atlas
Based on the Renegade III, Dissident Atlas carries the rugged proportions of its predecessor into a substantially heavier class. It is still recognisably a Renegade, albeit one that appears to have spent several months eating other Renegades.
Shattering Ram
The Shieldbreaker becomes Shattering Ram, a name which leaves relatively little doubt regarding the intended diplomatic posture of the vessel. Strengthened systems and enlarged architecture give the original concept considerably more authority.
Sable Dirge
The Va'ruun Hymn III serves as the foundation for Sable Dirge. Its dark character and unmistakable Va'ruun design language remain intact, while the reforged version adds greater scale, stronger defensive systems and an altogether more ominous presence.
Rampart Invictus
The Stronghold evolves into Rampart Invictus. Already built around durability, the original platform has been expanded into something approaching a mobile fortification, with uprated shielding, power and weapon systems supporting the enlarged frame.
Gravshadow
The Silent Runner returns as Gravshadow, preserving the low-profile character of its predecessor while adding the power and scale expected across the Reforged line. Whether a ship of this size can reasonably be described as subtle remains a matter for philosophers and insurance investigators.
Terran Sunderer
Finally, the Terran Armada Saladin has been rebuilt as the Terran Sunderer. The original military aesthetic remains clearly visible beneath a larger frame, more powerful systems and a weapons fit designed to make the word “deterrence” do considerable administrative work.
That accounts for the Reforged Fleet: thirteen ships, each rebuilt as an exaggerated expression of the vessel that came before it.
Although, curiously, SSNN's records appear to contain details for only twelve.
There are, naturally, rumours.
Several dockworkers have independently described an unlisted vessel of exceptional size associated with the programme. The more colourful accounts mention a purpose-built three-by-three-by-three habitation structure at its core, an arrangement not normally encountered in conventional ship construction.
No registry entry matching those reports has been confirmed.
Probably nothing.
SSNN will continue pretending not to count.
