Realistic Inorganic Prices

The aim of this mod is to improve the realism of resource prices in “Starfield.” I always felt it was strange that gold, for instance, had so little value in the game. With this mod, all resources have been given values much closer to their real-life counterparts. For unique resources that do not have a real-life counterpart, the value has been increased by a factor of 10. Additionally, for Caelumite, the weight has been adjusted to reflect its increased value.

Balance Issues

As you can imagine, the increased value of elements could potentially lead to balance issues in the game. To help offset this, I’ve adjusted the weight of items. For example, if 1 kilogram of gold is valued at $77,000, however in the game, its weight may be reduced to 0.001 kilograms (1 gram) of gold, equivalent to $770. I’ve aimed to maintain ratios that reflect the actual value of objects while avoiding drastic changes to gameplay balance. This still feels fairly balanced the way I have made it because of the large gap in the price to purchase goods and what you get for selling them. In the Gold example without any commerce skill you purchase gold for 770 credits but can still only sell for 96 credits while Caelumite (The most expensive resource) costs 2,640 credits to buy and can be sold for 330 credits.

Mining

The changes to inorganic resource values make it less appealing to simply purchase many of the minerals for crafting. Hopefully, this encourages players to go out and mine their own resources, and potentially turning a tidy profit. However, this introduces a potential balance issue: You could set up extremely profitable mining outposts and accumulate vast amounts of credits. The goal here is simply to be more realistic.
