Lieutenant Commander Mariah Nicolette Betancourt was born in 2298 on Neon. Raised in the Aegean Towers housing project on Platform D, Lt. Commander Betancourt was swept into crime in her teenage years, associating with unsavory characters such as drug dealers and thieves. Despite her tough exterior, she excelled in academics, qualifying her for the Arthur B. Rittenhour Academic program for “at risk” youth. With a free ride to college, Betancourt chose the prestigious Pendleton Grove University in New Atlantis. It was there where Betancourt fell in love with being a part of the UC Navy. Upon graduating with her Bachelor of Science in Physics, Betancourt immediately signed up with the UC Navy as a commissioned officer, choosing the MOS of 183x (Intelligence Officer). She was assigned to UC Navy Officer Candidate School in New Atlantis. Upon graduation from OCS, her first assignment was at Camp Nakamara at Olympia, Luna, where she and two other UC Navy Intelligence officers were able to thwart a Freestar Collective spy initiative to gather intel on the UC’s G.A.R.D.I.A.N weapons defense program. At the start of Starfield, Lt. Commander Betancourt is currently assigned to the 14th Armored Aviation Division on The Den.
