Dark Future Texture Pack
Community Rating
(Free Lanes fix and major update, please reach out if there's issues.)
Changes a number of materials and models, inspired by old FPS games and industrial and military aesthetics. May be easier on the eyes for night gaming. Generally this mod is more for theme than fidelity, and not meant to be objectively "better", but the wide array of changes includes a few upscales, replacements, and material fixes.
The pack has a small filesize but just a few changes go a long way, since the game reuses one metal texture in almost every station, and indirect lighting is affected when surfaces are darker.
I used some free textures by 'Yughes' and would like to credit them.
I don't own a console and recently updated to the new way Xbox files work, so if you see issues please find me on the Bethesda Discord or NexusMods as Hycas.
Release notes
Playstation
-
2.0.02.0.0
- Some textures formatted as BC7, BC4, or DXT1 (compressed and small size) depending on... arbitrarily how I felt at the time.
- More Deimos replacement:
- Main Deimos c*ckpit now grittier and more industrial
- DeimosMetalBase01Orange is more orange (was beige) and has a normal map now.
- New Neon floor. Concrete slabs -> metal
- More Stroud replacement:
- Some materials only used on Stroud ships changed from clean white+yellow into sleek metal+gold look
- Panel01Gold01 and White01
- HopeTech remains already perfect (。◕‿‿◕。)
- Replaces materials for ships: High Tech PaintedMetalPanel01_White01 and _base for darker ship rooms.
- Starstation interior/generic materials: White03 is darker and metallic, changed White02 for less tiling
- Starstation exterior materials: beige01 changed to dark scratched metal, Base01 tweaked, White01 is sci-fi panelling, blue (seen on large pipes) is darker deeper blue.
- ConcreteKit default and blue looks brutalist due to default material swap and now a higher res more intense normal I made myself. Fixed bug: One piece (the one piece is real) has bad UVing that's more visible with the retexture. Being a perfectionist I tweaked it in Blender, let me know if not including geometry for it (shouldn't need it) causes issues especially on console.
- Main starstation floor reworked again. More sensible contrast, smaller albedo size, doubled UV, maybe better albedo and roughness, more intense normal. Not sure it ended up "better", metallic isn't as cool, but the texture may be less distracting overall and is better optimised.
- New Atlantis:
- Maple (eco friendly) wood veneer and Common:WoodVeneer02 -> woodformed concrete
- NATileFloor01 is a nice oxidising copper. This gave me an idea for a really 'Atlantis' themed New Atlantis so I ran with it.
- NAT ceiling is more industrial; closer to concept art.
- Plastic(??) track housing is now hardy metal.
- Low res texture "NADetailPaintedConcrete01_Red01" has a material doubling UV res, -
1.7.0- Redid a texture as BC7 if it wasn't already, changed some to DXT1 (compressed and small size).
- More Deimos replacement:
- Deimos c*ckpit (yes I had to censor that) now grittier and more industrial
- More Stroud replacement:
- Some materials only used on Stroud ships changed from clean white+yellow into sleek metal+gold look
- Panel01Gold01 and White01
- HopeTech is already perfect (。◕‿‿◕。)
- Replaces materials for ships: High Tech PaintedMetalPanel01_White01 and _base for darker ship rooms.
- Starstation White03 is darker and metallic
- Changed starstation White02 out for less tiling
- Starstation exterior material changes
- ConcreteKit default concrete looks brutalist
- Low res texture "NADetailPaintedConcrete01_Red01" has a material doubling UV res, and is more orange and vivid
- New Neon floor. Concrete slabs -> metal
- New Atlantis maple (eco friendly) wood veneer -> woodformed concrete
- Main station floor reworked again. More sensible contrast, smaller albedo size, doubled UV, maybe better albedo and roughness, more intense normal. Not sure it ended up "better", metallic isn't as good, but texture may be less distracting overall.
- StnFloorPanelsDecal01 changed.
