WARNING: THIS MOD IS A CHEAT. It will disable achievements. So don't say I didn't warn you. But, as cheat mods go, it's pretty light-weight with only a limited effect on the gameplay.

Three new backgrounds are added to the game, flavored for RP as an isekai protagonist. Each gives you LOTS of starting skills (3 or 4 dozen) appropriate for that character type. This ONLY uses the "vanilla" perks as bonuses for NEW UNIQUE backgrounds. These new backgrounds are not flagged for any dialogue, quests, etc. in the game because honestly I don't know how to do that. All it does is add three more background options for a VERY MUCH IMPROVED start to the game.

If you use mods that alter the properties of the vanilla perks... for instance maybe you want your Aneutronic Fusion to give you additional units of power for your ship, or you want your combat skills to provide a bigger damage bonus for your weapons... it is FINE, the backgrounds will pull the modded versions of the skills and give you a level in each one as appropriate. So you can still use the new backgrounds while enabling whatever your modded perks are supposed to do.

For those who know what "isekai" means... I thought it would be a bit silly to throw a reference to that into a game where you get into NewGame+ by using ancient alien artifacts to essentially isekai yourself into a parallel universe where you take over from the "real you" who should be in that universe, and all it lets you keep is your list of skills that you've learned along the way. This lets you start your new game (first run, after character creation) as a transplant from another world, and you start out with no idea how this new world works, but you kept most of your skills from your previous life. The selection of skills that you "remember" depends what job you had in your previous life: were you an experimental super-soldier fighting against enemy invasions, or a scientific genius with mad research and crafting abilities, or a starship engineer working on your planet's first starship with interstellar capabilities?

As for which skills you gain from each background, see the images provided, but here is a general overview of what you get:

  1. Isekai'd Starship Engineer: 32 perks, mainly geared towards starship operations and basic life skills.

  2. Isekai'd Super Soldier: 46 perks, mainly geared towards combat effectiveness and basic life skills.

  3. Isekai'd Scientist: 31 perks, mainly geared towards research and crafting, xeno-exploration, and basic life skills.

To install: Manual download, if you get the mod from Nexus: Unzip the IsekaiHero.esm file into your Starfield\Data folder.

Bethesda Creations download, if you get the mod from the Starfield Creations system: Boot up the game, go to the Creations menu, download the mod with the push of a button.

After downloading: Boot up the game, go to the Creations menu, and activate the mod. Also slide it to an appropriate place in your load order list. It shouldn't matter where, since it adds BRAND NEW background entries instead of altering vanilla files.
It should not conflict with ANY other mods. If it does, then blame the other mod for just being broken because trust me they're not actually conflicting. Just make sure it is on the list BELOW the main Starfield and Shattered Space (if you have it) esm, as well as the Community Patch mods if you use them, too.
Close the Creations menu. EXIT THE GAME!!!
Now reboot the game and play as normal.

Updates: Honestly, don't expect too much. This is a very simple mod and I consider it to be complete in its current form. I don't foresee any game updates breaking it in the near future. And I don't even use it myself anymore... I've already made another one that is EVEN MORE of a cheat to replace this one. But that one required a lot of editing of the skills themselves, as well as several other in-game features. So I wanted to post this one for people who want a role-play friendly way to cheat a bit without totally breaking the game balance.

** Notice for mod creators: This is a "small master" mod, Creation Kit and xEdit flag it as ESM & ESL, and it has been treated to remove the annoying dependency on "BlupringShips-Starfield.esm" as a master. Provided as a single zipped .esm file. If you ask nicely, I might be able to provide the .esp and full-master .esm, too, but I don't really see the point since it's easy enough to edit the vanilla backgrounds or create your own from scratch. If you want to use this as the basis for your own mod, making MINOR edits to the skill lists included for each background, please be kind and add a simple tagline in your description if you post it online or distribute it otherwise, something to the effect of "Inspired by the "Isekai Hero" mod by HansDavion on NexusMods.com" should be good enough for me. If you make MAJOR edits like changing the names of the backgrounds, inserting other traits or editing vanilla skill files... well then I don't feel like it's necessary to give me credit in that case. I really only did this as a sort of "practice tutorial" for myself since I haven't modded anything in several years (since Skyrim GOTY was released) and I started forgetting how to do it. That, and free pre-allocated skill points are nice.

** I don't play on XBox, this mod was made for PC. If you have problems on XBox, please contact me on Nexus and let me know. I'm assuming XBox backgrounds and skills work the same as they do on PC, but just in case... https://next.nexusmods.com/profile/HansDavion/
