Fine-tuning the site, PWA app, and video backlog review
Been a bit since I posted here. Like many gamers must, I had switched playing for a bit to some other things. I'll post separately about some of those, but now I've returned to my personal cozy game, Starfield, and updating this site for it. Here's a bit of the latest changes/additions.
Content Reorg and Polish
I've been wanting to push the "Latest in the Starfield" on the homepage higher up for awhile, so I've started making that happen - especially for mobile users. You'll also see where I redesigned various elements like buttons and sections mostly on the HP and Mod detail pages so far. I cut the Related Mods section on mod details in favor of featuring other mods from key mod categories attached to any mod page you find yourself viewing.
Testing a Progressive Web App (PWA)
I updated the PWA for the site to support web pushes of your notification alerts, and I'm still testing that bit so there could be more to come for that. Let me know if you give it a try and spot any issues. You can customize what you receive notifications about so that it doesn't overwhelm you with anything.
Video Backlog Clear
I have some scripts that run on a regular basis to check YouTube for new Starfield content - by allow-listed channels, playlists, etc. as well as just general search results to discover new things. The latter had gotten up to over 600 videos (going back over the years of content published on the game). I recently reviewed all that and approved several to appear on the site now.
More to Come
- I am currently working on a Modding 101 help page for those new to Starfield creations. It will first focus on consoles, but I'll invite others to help contribute anything they might suggest - especially if you're a PC player.
- I ended up removing the Reddit section from the site primarily because Reddit had made it a chore to keep ingesting new content to feature on the site. However, I'm going to explore new ways to bring in more active Starfield content to feature on the site from various sources.
- I'll be looking at new ways to make it easier to add/manage your content on the site. One such case is a permanent Pending collection you can bookmark mods into so that you can review it the next time you're in Starfield and want to add something new.
