So, today was the big reveal for Starfield updates and dlc, and oh boy, was it packed with a ton of new and updated information.

Cruise mode, new outpost decor, new collectibles, the ability to reroll lego traits, new pet, the new POIs, and that boujee space mansion all caught my attention. 👀 But there was a ton of stuff I know I'm excited for all the same, it's just so much stuff to look foward to. April 7th can't come soon enough. 😅

With that, what are you most excitedly looking foward to?

I'm always down for new and polished functionality in the game.. especially that improves QoL like the Quantum unity storage, Database, Shared outpost storage. Ship staircases. I also look forward on the new real estate additions (outposts and player homes). I wish they handled it like ship habs however (or like Fallout 4 Sim Settlements plots), as while I love building individual pieces, it is double-edged; adding a more granular experience at the cost of system resources (instances and references) adding to inevitable save bloat. Ship and outpost blueprints also would be splendid.

What I'm more wary about is how the narrative will be shaped with Bethesda's new content, if at all. As it stands, most stories are self-contained; powerful concepts such as the Artifacts/Starborn are contained within Constellation's narrative. The SysDef/CF questline is another; being a friend of a fleet apparently makes you friendly to all vanilla pirates. Even Shattered Space didn't get much impact on Andreja, much so on the broader Varuun community (zealots). The choices and consequence feel muted as a result. That's why people have been clamoring for quest mods (besides gear, ship parts and outpost parts), they want narrative that they can make an impact with their player choices. But I digress.

As for the negativity, just tune it out. They're wasting time and energy, don't get dragged by it. Starfield is a young IP that is why it is still lacking as compared to Fallout and Elder Scrolls. There is still more room for content and lore. Speaking of content, I'm glad they did better pricing now, Tracker's Alliance is sold wholesale (7 for 7) instead of piecemeal (7/mission); Terran Armada is free on Premium edition; that makes buying Starfield on a Steam sale worth it (in total, you free Armada, Shattered Space and 1-2 creations of your choosing via credits on top of the initial game updates).

Everything great takes time, much like fine wine.

I always ignore the negativity. A lot of it was overblown and/or expectations that was never part of Starfield in the first place. Bethesda did a stellar job presenting the new content and making it accessible to more players with the lower barriers to entry. I'm excited for all of it! Peaks my curiosity what they have in store for the future.

Blueprints will be an awesome addition. I imagine it's not easy to implement- hence why it hasn't happened yet, but I am hopeful it's something they're actively working on getting right. Like you said, everything great takes time, much like fine wine.

I added a dedicated section on the homepage that links off to the new Game Updates page. Thanks to Bethesda for finally giving me a reason to make one!

Let me know if you see anything I missed. I rewatched the deep dive twice to try and make sure I captured everything mentioned. I'll probably go back and reformat the list some to make it easier to read since the list under Free Lanes is so HUGE! Gotta love it!

Everything they showed off looked amazing, and was all relevant to my interests.

More (non-modded) ship parts has been on my wishlist for a while. Especially with the addition of the staircases. I'm clearing my (very modest) load order in preparation.

I've also wanted outposts to get a bit of love in regard to making them more homes than Industrial Outpost #6. Likewise, the compendium to make the placement and management of them that much easier. I've definitely burned some time jumping/scanning around for a planet with a particular resource.

Weapon/armor mods have not really interested me due to how randomly they are distributed. It's very rare that a weapon I like, of Advanced+ quality, actually drops with perks that fit my playstyle/playthrough. Regular, kitted-out gear has been my go-to. Until now!

Same goes for the new system for Starborn powers. I was never interested in grinding out the powers. Instead, each NG+ jump for me was a chance to explore different options, make (some) different choices, and generally roleplay The Pretender. While I would have eventually gotten all the powers to X, my average time per universe is around 100-200 hours.

The Quantum Entangler is interesting, but I'm not sure how much I'd use it. I'm the kind of freak who actually likes the soft reset between universes. Building up my kit for whatever character concept I'm doing, and trying new things along the way, is part of the fun for me.

The Terran Armada story addition is a bit daunting right now, but only because it means I need to actually get around to running through the Shattered Space MQ!

Tracker's Alliance is going to be a fully new character playthrough focusing ONLY on bounty hunting and bounty hunting accessories.

Then there's the gameplay changes like cruise mode. Looks neat, I'll have to see how it feels in game. The space encounters part is more interesting to me on that front. The "Terran Incursions" might wind up a nice late-game activity. Perfect for grinding credits to pay for that asteroid mansion! Current POI are good. More POI is even better.

All that, AND little pets to hang out with? LFG!!!!

Love the outposts got some love with the new hab, pets, decor, and the database to track and favorite resources or places. I agree that sometimes making an outpost was a pain in the behind due to resources being all over the place. Sometimes I leave all my stuff in one outpost, so I grind out more materials out of pure laziness figuring out which outpost got 'em. But they're also introducing the shared chest that basically acts like a linked chest for outposts. I'm excited for it. All your materials and items together no matter where you go? Sign me right up!
Curious if they'll update the other craftable chests have infinite storage or at least a large . 🤔

I had an idea the other day about how they could handle outposts without going full in on blueprints: make the outpost components optionally break down into inventory items.

Build 6 drilling rigs, lug 6 drilling rigs into your cargo hold. Same thing with generators, habs, etc. Physical items, with weight, rather than a pile of loose resources. Much easier to pack up and move around exactly what you want to bring when moving from location-to-location.

Obviously would be a tradeoff for cargo space. Either against the cargo hold itself, or even as placed objects inside the ship. Just imagine how cool it would be to physically stack your outpost in a big empty cargo hab? Basically Starborn IKEA furniture for days 😂

Just got done with the deep dive video from Bethesda and approved, to appear on this site, the flood of new videos YouTube creators had pre-prepared for this news.

I am super excited for it all. I'm so glad the depth of changes and additions feel weighty enough to justify the length of radio silence we've endured from Bethesda.

The cruise mode looks very cool to me. It matches what I felt like they could do on Starfield with the alarm going off to inform you of events or POIs in space.

The Terran Armada seems cool, but I hope there's much more to it than what was revealed. Robot companions and pets are cool, but I'd prefer some you can form meaningful relationships with like those in Constellation.

The database looks super interesting. I have longed for a place where I can see all my outposts back when I cared about making lots of them. I'm not sure anything in this update makes outposts super useful, though. I want a vital reason for building a network of them. Maybe it unlocks something or funds something that would be fun or useful to have in the game.

More photo mode poses was a nice little addition in there, and the Quantum Entangler giving us the ability to bring items through the Unity was not something I expected but could invite more to go NG+. The main thing I'd bring, though, is something I still can't do: a blueprint of the ships I've built so I can rebuild them more easily in future universes. Maybe that is something they could add in the future - though all the ship part creations probably make that a good bit more difficult.

Most importantly, I hope the hate for Starfield diminishes and the PS5 release brings new fans to the game we love and this community we have online.

Nobody wants to admit it, but the Xbox Tax is real! And I've never even owned an Xbox†

That, and the grifting cottage industry of "content" that's been built around hating Bethesda might be losing steam. Maybe. Just wait till TESVI drops. It'll be declared the worst game ever, while Starfield was a hidden gem masterpiece the whole time. Been happening basically since Daggerfall. Only difference is that now people can monetize it.

Haters gonna hate. Grifters gonna grift.

†Technically, I once got two red-ringed 360's for free, reflowed/shimmed them into working condition, then sold for $100. I've never owned and gamed on an Xbox. GPCGMR4EVR!

The hate is over the top with Starfield. It was more or less trendy to hate it out of clout than any legitimate complaints/concerns. I have a feeling the hate will die down quite a bit with the PS5 release, and we'll see more opinions leaning on what a gem Starfield is.

Despite that, I'm glad Bethesda is adding more to space in general. Shipbuilding is top-tier, but what's a spaceship without a proper space to explore it with? Blueprints will be a nice touch, too.

I'm hoping they'll expand the LIST fraction. Feels like untapped potential waiting for its time to shine. Perhaps that could tie-in with a robust outpost update. After all, outpost settlements is what they do best.
